Postgraduate Dissertation (MSc Thesis)
An essential requirement for the successful completion of the MSc program “Special Education and Training” is the preparation of a Postgraduate Dissertation (MSc Thesis). Postgraduate students, in agreement with their supervisor, submit a relevant application at the beginning of the 4th academic semester to the Department’s Secretariat. The application includes the proposed title of the MSc Thesis, falling within the field of Special Education and Training.
The MSc Thesis is prepared during the 4th academic semester and is equivalent to twenty (20) European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits (Regulation of Operation of the MSc program “Special Education and Training” of the Department of Education Sciences, Article 6, and Article 7, paragraphs 4 and 5, Government Gazette 2983/B/19.07.2019). The MSc Thesis is publicly defended before a three-member Examination Committee following the consent of the supervisor for its completion. The defense takes place on a predetermined date and time set and announced by the supervisor.
The announcement for the public defense of the MSc Thesis is posted on the notice boards and the website of both the MSc program and the Department, under the responsibility of the supervisor. The grading is done after the completion of the public defense of the dissertation, based on the assessment session of the three-member Evaluation Committee, recorded in a special form, and a relevant report is drafted and sent to the Department’s Secretariat (Regulation of Operation of the MSc program “Special Education and Training” of the Department of Education Sciences, Article 7, paragraphs 6 and 7, Government Gazette 2983/B΄/19.07.2019). The MSc Theses are registered in the repository of the Postgraduate Theses of the MSc program at the Department of Education Sciences of the University of Ioannina, aiming to ensure the quality of the study programs and access to open public data (see: https://ptde.uoi.gr/repository).
Detailed information about the process of preparation, evaluation, and quality specifications is described in the Regulations of the MSc Thesis for the MSc program “Special Education and Training” for the academic year 2022-2023 (see A 19.4 MSc Thesis Regulations) and in the Regulations of Operation of the MSc program “Special Education and Training” of the Department of Education Sciences (see A 12).
